About the heart chakra
Anahata means "unstruck", and for a place devoted to sound, there is no lovelier name. It refers to the anahata nada, the unstruck sound: a sound heard inwardly, made by nothing striking anything, which yogic traditions describe as audible in deep stillness.
The heart sits at the centre of the chest and at the centre of the seven, with three centres below and three above. Its element is air, and its themes are love, compassion, forgiveness and connection. Many teachers describe it as the bridge between the body's centres and the more spiritual ones: the place where the personal opens into the shared.
Working with it through sound
Heart work is usually soft: a gentle tone, a hand resting on the chest, and attention turned towards someone you care about, or towards yourself with the same care.
Which frequency is the heart chakra?
In the Solfeggio chakra map, 639 Hz is the heart's tone, linked with relationship, harmony and understanding.
Other pairings
