About the root chakra
Muladhara sits at the base of the spine, where the body meets the ground it rests on. Its element is earth, and everything associated with it has that quality: stability, weight, the sense of being held up by something that will not move.
In energy practice the root is where a sense of safety and belonging lives, the quiet confidence that there is enough and that you are allowed to be here. Many teachers begin every session at this centre, on the understanding that nothing higher settles well without a steady base beneath it.
Working with it through sound
Root work tends to favour low, slow, unchanging sound. Sitting or lying down, playing a tone quietly and letting attention sink into the points where the body touches the floor is one of the simplest ways people approach it.
